In Idaho, you can find several types of millipedes. The most common species in Idaho include:

• American giant millipede. This is one of the larger millipedes found in North America, including Idaho. It can grow up to 4 inches long and has a dark, cylindrical body.
• Yellow-spotted millipede. Also known as the almond-scented millipede, this species is identifiable by its black body and yellow spots. It emits a cyanide compound as a defense mechanism.
• Greenhouse millipede. This species is often found in greenhouses and gardens. It is relatively small, usually around 1 inch in length, and has a brown or reddish-brown color.
• European millipedes. These are small to medium-sized millipedes that are often introduced species. They have a cylindrical body and are usually dark brown or black.
• American millipedes. These millipedes are native to North America and are commonly found in various habitats. They tend to have a cylindrical body with a more uniform color, typically brown or black.
• Flat-backed millipedes. These millipedes are characterized by their flattened body segments and can be quite colorful, often with bright warning colors.
